What Parts Do
| Spark Plugs |

The spark plus are only found in petrol cars, their job is to ignite the fuel air mixture. It sits at the top of the cylinder head of an engine. All spark plus have an insulated centre electrode which is connected to an ignition coil or magneto circuit. Spark plugs usually work on voltage that is over 20,000 volts to operate correctly. Although most spark plugs can be used in many different makes and models of vehicles, the important bit is that gap between the side electrode and the centre electrode. If this is not set correctly before being fitted to a car, it may cause you problems with misfiring and even wreck your engine. So if you are having problems with your engine and you think it could be the plugs, try checking the spacing between these 2 points as they are different for different engines. Although problems caused by spacing would usually only happen after the plugs had just been changed, it isn’t something that will happen to your plugs over time. Other problems that occur with spark plugs are the amount of carbon that gathers at the end of the terminals. Depending on the condition of your oil and air filters, it may shorten the life of your spark plugs. An average spark plug would be expected to last around 25,000 miles before failing completely. But to change it before it fails we would recommend at least once every 10,000 miles. Other problems that occur with spark plugs are the amount of carbon that gathers at the end of the terminals. On V6 engines a failed spark plug could be catastrophic, because of the V6 requiring perfect balance of the engine, if one side fails it could lead a type of wobble on the engine that after a while will cause major problems. |
