Car Garages Leasing Space to Customers
A new scheme is taking hold at some garages across the UK, the scheme involves customers renting garage space. Sounds very strange but garages are letting out their space and tools for as little as £10 per hour.

In the offer you get to use things like the ramp to lift your car in to the air, the tools you need to complete the job and maybe if you are lucky a cup of tea. The scheme is meant for three types of customer;
  • Those that are only doing simple jobs and can complete them themselves without help from a mechanic. The types of jobs would be tasks like an oil change or changing the air filter
  • Those that know a lot about cars but don't have the need to buy expensive tools for a one off job when it is better to rent them.
Hopefully we won't get stories of drivers attempting to rebuild an engine without any previous knowledge or skills, because then we will have a whole new craze of people being towed out of a garage.

It will be interesting to see how the private initiative develops over the coming months, but it is clear that car mechanics have started to innovate and find new sources of income in the economic downturn.
